Growing up with a father and even a grandfather who served in the Secret Service provided me with a constant sense of security, allowing me to journey through life without the typical fears that plague most people. In the past few years my sense of security has been threatened by the increase in terrorist activity abroad and even in my own front yard. Traveling to Israel recently opened my eyes to the constant threat of violence and terror the people living in this country face every minute. Security isn’t something they take for granted, recruiting 18 and 19-year-old men and women to help safeguard their country against acts of terrorism. Carrying Uzies, M16s and other powerful weapons is a way of life for the young and old. The continual threat of terrorism permeates their culture and they are on constant alert.

During my visit, I traveled to the heart of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, areas that have been rocked by explosives, bombings and repeated sniper fire. These areas are constantly highlighted on the news for the daily violence that erupts. Fortunately, I was escorted by armed military men including the Commander of the ground forces in a level 6 bullet resistant SUV. In these areas I met victims of terrorist attacks whose children lost limbs or didn’t survive. Hearing these heart wrenching accounts made me realize the value of daily protection and the importance of vigilant security. Although there is no silver bullet to guard against terrorism or acts of violence, instituting security measures and maintaining a pro-active state of awareness are critically important.

High profile executives and individuals with wide visibility are more in the center of the target for many extremists. Ensuring the safety and security of these recognized individuals requires the expertise of an Executive Protection Agent, someone who is tactically trained, experienced in assessing potential risks and ready to respond at all times. Although specific cities and countries were not listed, current intelligence indicates that Al-Queda and affiliated terrorist groups are planning attacks against U.S. interests in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our world is becoming increasingly more vulnerable to the threat of terrorism, kidnappings and random acts of violence. It is our responsibility to take pro-active measures to protect ourselves and increase security measures, maintaining a vigilant awareness of our surroundings.
